Day 1 – Oaxaca City
OaxacaN WELCOME

Nestled between the mountains and the coast, Oaxaca is the perfect off-the-radar destination in the Americas. With its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and laid-back vibe, it strikes the ideal balance between quaint and vibrant.

After making your way to the hotel, you’ll meet up your new group of friends before we kick off our time together with a rooftop margarita (or mezcalita!) followed by dinner at one of our favorite local spots.

Tonight’s restaurant brings the unique flavors, ingredients, and ancestral techniques of its owner’s remote mountain village to the heart of Oaxaca City. Here, fresh local vegetables take center stage, making it the perfect meal to start us off on a mindful five days.

  Day 2 – Oaxaca City
NATURE & NURTURE

Whether you’re new to meditation or have an existing practice, this morning’s session is all about helping settle in and ground you in the current moment. Your wellness leader will take everyone through a guided meditation, followed by a journaling session to set intentions for your time in Oaxaca.

In the afternoon, we’re off to Hierve el Agua to see some of the regions natural beauty and get the body moving. We’ll do a medium-intensity hike before relaxing in the mineral-rich springs that form a natural infinity pool on the cliff’s edge. The hike is optional if you’d prefer to spend more time at the pools.

To close out the day, we’ll immerse ourselves in a cacao ritual, a wellness experience deeply rooted in Mexican tradition. Once revered by the Maya as the “drink of the gods,” ceremonial cacao is all about rejuvenation, balance, and new beginnings. Through this ritual, you’ll sip ceremonial-grade cacao, release old energies, open your heart, and create space for fresh, positive intentions.

Day 3  – Oaxaca City
Monte Albán Magic

This wellness-focused trip all about fostering interconnectedness: within yourself and with the world around you. This morning, we’ll dive deeper into the true essence of yoga. While many see yoga as a way to build flexibility and strength, it’s so much more than just downward-facing dogs and backbends. It’s a holistic philosophy for cultivating balance—which is why we call this trip Mindfulness and Margaritas. Life is all about balance!

After our morning session, the day is yours to explore vibrant Oaxaca City with your new friends. Wander its cobblestone streets, admire colorful murals, and uncover architectural gems in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Food lovers, you’re in for a treat! Be sure to add mole and chapulines (fried grasshoppers) to your must-try list.

In the late afternoon, we’ll take a short trip to Monte Albán, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. There, we’ll meet our local archaeologist guide, who will share why this Zapotec city was once considered the “Ancient Rome of Mexico.” As the sun sets, we’ll gather for a guided meditation amidst the ruins, soaking in the magic of this ancient site before heading back to Oaxaca City.

LEARN

*

It’s our last full day together, and we’ll begin with one final rooftop meditation to center ourselves before heading to a charming family-owned farm to taste Oaxaca’s signature spirit—mezcal—straight from the source.

While tequila often takes center stage elsewhere in Mexico, Oaxaca is mezcal country. This smoky spirit, made from the maguey agave plant, is traditionally sipped straight and served with sliced oranges dusted in sal de gusano. During this visit, you’ll learn about the time-honored methods behind crafting this beloved drink and witness how it transforms from plant to glass.

In the evening, we’ll return to the city, giving you some free time to unwind or explore before our farewell dinner. Together, we’ll raise a final toast with mezcal, honoring Oaxaca’s famous saying: “Para todo mal, mezcal, y para todo bien, también,” which translates to “For everything bad, mezcal; for everything good, the same.” Because, as we said, it’s all about balance. ¡Salud!

EXPLORE

Today is the last day and we hope you’re leaving Oaxaca with a fresh perspective, positive mindset, and memories that will stay with you long after you’re home.

The true value of this journey lies in the connections you’ve made—whether with yourself, with new friends, or with this vibrant destination. And who knows? Maybe you’re taking home a few new yoga poses too! We’re confident that the friendships you’ve built here will stand the test of time and distance (so many of our travelers end up planning their next adventure together before this one even ends!).

If it’s time for you to head out, we wish you safe travels! But if you’ve got a bit more time to spare, consider extending your adventure. Head to Colombia to dive into its salsa scene, colorful streets, and world-class coffee, or explore Costa Rica for its lush jungles, serene beaches, and pura vida vibes.

FAST FACTS

Fast facts

About Oaxaca

Oaxaca de Juárez is the capital of the state of Oaxaca in southwestern Mexico, though sometimes it’s referred to as Oaxaca City or just Oaxaca. Although both Oaxaca and Mexico City are known for their cuisine, history, and local culture, Oaxaca City couldn’t be farther from the Mexican capital. The streets are calm, the buildings are short, and the culture is much more relaxed in general (other than Day of the Dead, when the city comes alive!)

GOOD TO KNOW

  • Oaxaca is one of the safest cities and states in all of Mexico.

  • The Mexican peso is the currency.

  • While Spanish is spoken by the vast majority of those in Oaxaca, there are 16 indigenous languages spoken in the region as well.

  • Mezcal has been produced in Oaxaca for centuries and is renowned for its superior quality and exceptional taste.

  • The city of Oaxaca and nearby Monte Albán were designated UNESCO Heritage Sites in 1987.

TRIP NOTES

  • Private rooms tend to sell out quickly, so we recommend booking early to secure yours before they’re gone!

  • Pack carefully; the highs in Oaxaca reach into the 80s every month of the year, but nights can be chilly.

  • Mezcal is part of the Oaxaca experience, but you’ll never need to drink if you don’t want to.

  • This is an "active trip" with a fair amount of walking.

  • More information regarding visa requirements and Covid restrictions can be found here.
